This report takes a closer look at how students with academic deficiencies are provided with extra assistance, called learning support, through their first year of college. The report describes the different forms of learning support, analyzes how many students attending public higher education institutions qualify for it, and displays trends in learning support over time.
New programs, such as SAILS, that are provided to students with academic deficiencies prior to enrolling in college are also examined in the report. Such programs have provided students with low ACT scores the chance to receive extra academic help before enrolling in college. The report also covers recent changes in how public higher education institutions provide students with learning support and the success of these changes.
