Local Government Budgeting

All counties, metropolitan governments, municipalities, and utility districts are required to adopt annual budgets. The annual budget must be filed or submitted for approval or reporting to the Office of State and Local Finance (OSLF).

OSLF has the authority to prescribe forms and procedures for the preparation of annual budgets in local governments, to require local governments to file their adopted annual budgets, and to set the standards a local government’s annual budget must meet for approval pursuant to the Local Government Public Obligations Act and the Public Building Authorities Act.
