Open Records Counsel Inquiry Help
This form is to be used for submissions to the Office of Open Records Counsel on issues related to public records and open meetings. If you want to report fraud, waste, or abuse by a government entity, do not use this form; instead, please contact the Comptroller’s Fraud, Waste & Abuse Hotline.
The Office of Open Records Counsel’s website has useful information that may provide an answer to your issues:
Tennessee public records laws apply to state, county and municipal entities and organizations. The Tennessee open meeting law applies to “governing bodies”, as defined in Tenn. Code Ann. Section 8-44-102(b), which consist of two or more members. In your inquiry, please identify the government entity or organization whose records or meetings you are inquiring about.
An inquiry may cover both records and meetings. The Tennessee Open Meetings Act requires certain records to be produced, such as public notice and minutes.
Please include your contact information if you want a response from the Office of Open Records Counsel. You will be assigned a reference number. Please maintain this number for your records.
