Higher Education Resource Officer

Are you trying to resolve an issue with a Tennessee public higher education institution or system?

Have you experienced challenges navigating the policies and procedures of Tennessee’s higher education institutions and systems?

Do you need help obtaining a response from a higher education institution or system?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions and you work as a faculty member, staff member, or employee in Tennessee higher education, the Comptroller’s Higher Education Resource Officer (HERO) can help.

The HERO supports all faculty, staff, and employees in Tennessee higher education by:

  • Informally mediating and assisting in the resolution of issues raised by higher education faculty, staff, and employees about Tennessee’s higher education systems and institutions.
  • Responding to questions about Tennessee’s public universities, community colleges, and colleges of applied technology, as well as the University of Tennessee system and Tennessee Board of Regents.
  • Evaluating administrative policies and procedures in higher education for the Tennessee General Assembly.

As a function of the Comptroller’s Office, the HERO is part of the legislative branch of Tennessee state government. The HERO provides independent oversight of state government’s responsiveness to faculty, staff, and employees of Tennessee’s higher education systems and institutions.
