Sandi Thompson

State Government Finance

Sandi Thompson is the Director of State Government Finance for the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury. She joined the Office as the Assistant Director in 2008 and was appointed to Director in 2013.

Sandi is responsible for the issuance and management of the State’s general obligation debt, as well as the debt of the Tennessee State School Bond Authority and the Tennessee Local Development Authority. Sandi serves as assistant secretary to the State Funding Board, the Tennessee State School Bond Authority, and the Tennessee Local Development Authority. She also serves as assistant secretary to the Bond Finance Committee of the Tennessee Housing Development Agency to assist and provide support in the issuance of its debt to finance affordable single-family housing. Sandi and her team are also responsible for the administration of the loans for certain loan programs of the state including the State Revolving Loan Funds, the Energy Efficient Schools Initiative, and the State Infrastructure Fund.

Prior to joining the Comptroller’s Office, Sandi worked in the banking industry for 26 years in the areas of auditing, accounting and finance, debt administration, relationship management, and business development. She attended the Cannon Financial Institute and attained the designation of Certified Corporate Trust Specialist (CCTS). She graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa with an accounting degree. Sandi graduated from the Tennessee Government Executive Institute (TGEI) in 2010.  She served as President for the Tennessee Government Finance Officers Association in 2017 and is a member of the State Debt Management Network (SDMN).

Sandi and her husband Tim reside in Hendersonville, Tennessee. They have a daughter, Allison, who is an MTSU graduate. Sandi enjoys gardening, bowling, and playing golf with her husband.
