John B. Dunn is the Director of Communications for the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office. John is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the Office’s internal and external communication efforts. John is the main point of contact for media inquiries, and he manages the Office’s online presence. John also works closely with the Tennessee General Assembly as a member of the Comptroller’s legislative team.

John was hired by the Comptroller’s Office in 2014. Prior to his employment with the state, John was an Emmy and AP award winning television reporter for WZTV in Nashville for 12 years. He also worked for WJHL in Johnson City for two years. John often covered government and politics during his years as a reporter.

John is a graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana where he studied broadcast journalism and speech communications. In 2018, he received a certificate of completion for the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Additionally, John is a 2017 graduate of LEAD Tennessee and a 2021 graduate of the Tennessee Government Executive Institute.

John and his wife Jennifer have three daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys running, reading, and cheering for Butler basketball.
