Michael Booher, CPA, CFE, CFI serves as the Deputy Chief Investigator for the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury’s Middle Tennessee region. In this role, he helps lead the Office’s efforts to investigate allegations of fraud, waste, and abuse involving public funds and property. He was named Deputy Chief Investigator in 2026.

Michael joined the Comptroller’s Office in 2016 and has spent his tenure investigating fraud involving public funds. Before joining the Comptroller’s Office, he worked in internal audit for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. He began his career in public accounting with Brown Edwards in Virginia.

Michael earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Hampden-Sydney College and holds master’s degrees in business administration and accounting from East Tennessee State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner, and Certified Forensic Interviewer.

Michael has served in several leadership roles on the board of directors for the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. In 2026, he was appointed to the board of directors of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Foundation.

Michael, his wife Megan, and their daughter live in Middle Tennessee. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and away from computer screens.
