Former David Crockett HS Football and Wrestling Booster Club President Indicted
DCHS is located in Jonesborough in Washington CountyAn investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office, working in conjunction with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, has resulted in the indictment of Leigh-Anna Clark, the former president of the David Crockett High School (DCHS) Football and Wrestling Booster Clubs.
The investigation, which began after Washington County school officials reported questionable transactions, looked at transactions that occurred between January 2023 and January 2024.
Comptroller investigators determined that Clark misappropriated a total of at least $8,501.79 from the booster clubs. This included $5,402.37 from the wresting club and $3,099.42 from the football club. Clark made personal retail purchases such as a washing machine, hotel stay, furniture, clothing, dinner items, and home decorations. She also used wrestling club funds to pay personal bills, and she withdrew $3,000 in cash from the football club account that remains unaccounted for.
Investigators have also questioned an additional $11,560.91 in purchases that Clark made using booster club funds that did not have sufficient supporting documentation. Investigators could not determine if these purchases benefited the clubs.
The investigation also revealed that Clark issued two worthless checks and fabricated bank and organizational documents as part of her scheme.
Based upon this investigation, in January 2025, Leigh-Anna Renee Clark was indicted by the Washington County Grand Jury on two counts of theft of property of $2,500 or more, and one count of forgery.
“This investigation shows how important it is for school support organizations, such as booster clubs, to follow state law requiring them to set up accounting controls to ensure all funds are used appropriately,” said Comptroller Mumpower. “Among the issues in this case, the booster clubs failed to maintain accurate records and also failed to conduct regular meetings to discuss financial transactions.”
