Former King University Coach Enters Plea After Misusing Nearly $39,000
An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office, working in conjunction with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, has resulted in the sentencing of Jason Moorman, a former King University coach, after investigators determined he misappropriated at least $38,895.96 in university funds. The investigation began after university officials reported questionable purchases.
Moorman, who served as King University’s women’s wrestling coach and held additional roles including assistant athletic director and bass fishing coach, used university credit cards to make unauthorized personal purchases between 2017 and 2024. These purchases included personal items such as home décor, clothing, electronics, groceries, pet supplies, restaurant meals, hotel stays, alcohol, and travel expenses.
Moorman resigned from King University on October 18, 2024.
In addition to the misappropriated funds, investigators identified $80,638.99 in questionable purchases made by Moorman. Due to the lack of supporting documentation, such as invoices or receipts, investigators could not confirm whether these expenses benefited the university or its athletic teams.
On June 15, 2026, Jason Moorman entered a no contest plea by way of Criminal Information to the Class C felony offense of theft over $10,000 in Sullivan County Circuit Court. Moorman was granted judicial diversion relief and was placed on supervised probation for a period of five years. He was also ordered to pay restitution to King University in the amount of $38,895.96.
