Online Utility Training
The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury is pleased to offer a full program of online utilities training for board members of municipalities, utility districts, treatment authorities, energy authorities, metropolitan governments, and counties that oversee a gas, water, and/or wastewater system.
All board members who help manage or oversee a utility system must complete two levels of training: Initial Training and Continuing Education.
Initial Training
- Each new board member must complete 12 hours of training within 12 months of being elected or appointed.
- This 12-hour requirement only applies the first time they are elected or appointed, not for future terms.
Continuing Education
- After finishing the initial 12 hours, a three-year continuing education cycle begins the next January 1.
- During each three-year period, every board member must complete 6 hours of additional training.
- As a best practice, it’s recommended that board members complete 2 hours per year instead of waiting until the end of the three-year period.
