Tennessee School Safety
March 2015
Author: Doug Wright
The protection of students and staff in the event of a natural disaster such as an earthquake or tornado is an important element of school safety. School officials must maintain a high level of preparedness throughout the school year since natural disasters may occur with little or no advance warning. Certain natural disasters are more likely to occur in the South than other regions of the United States, and specific regions of Tennessee are more likely to be affected by a natural disaster than others. This report reviews policies related to preparedness for natural disasters, including earthquakes, tornadoes, fires, and floods.
